TOTAL SA

France-based Total S.A. (FP) is one of the biggest oil companies in the world. Its activities include the exploration, refining, transport and sale of oil and petrochemicals. The group also has interests in coal mining, nuclear energy and alternative energy sources such as solar energy and biomass. Its headquarters are located in Courbevoie, France.

The company was founded in 1924, assuming the name Total S.A. in 1991 when it went public following its listing on the NYSE. The company operates in more than 130 countries and owns a number of registered trademarks, including Total, Elf, Fina, Elan and AS 24.

Ratings
Fitch Ratings gave Total S.A an "AA-" long-term issuer rating (2015) with stable outlook.

S&P Global Ratings gave Total S.A an "A+" long-term issuer rating (2016) with a positive outlook.

Meanwhile, Moody's gave the company an "Aa3" long-term issuer rating (2018) with positive outlook.

The company's share price rose 21% in 2018, but by the end of the year its growth rate had declined to 0.29%.
