The August US CPI report has just this minute hit the street.
The markets were expecting CPI to rise by 0.4% last month. It has
The annualised rate was forecast to be unchanged at 3.4%. It has matched expectations
The core monthly rate was expected to be unchanged at 0.2%. That risen to 0.3%
The core annualised rate was forecast to ease to 2.4% from 2.5%. That has also matched expectations
Ahead of this release the USD/JPY had earlier traded below the 154.00. The low seen this morning was set at 153.88. Prior to that during the Asian session it had traded as high as 154.62. The dollar was trading around 153.95 as this CPI data crossed the wires. The immediate reaction has seen the USD/JPY rise sharply and jump above 154.40 on the back of that higher core monthly reading. It is right now at 154.20
