There have been lots of earnings reports this morning from both sides of the Pond and that has seen a beat from Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) here in the UK and a beat from Coca Cola in the US. There are many others and we should note that Coca Cola is the second lowest ranked stock in the Dow Jones. However, it is also non-tech bellwether despite it low ranking these days.
So, that earnings news has helped to endorse what was positive rotation between the Dow and the Nasdaq 100. So, the Dow lifted the opening call to just above 52,500 a short while ago. That comes at the same time as the Nasdaq 100 futures fall back towards earlier session lows. The inference for the opening is now even more clear than earlier. That again seems to favour the non-tech sector, as indeed it did again all day yesterday. The Dow Jones is currently priced to reopen around 52,470
