Close but not quite for the S+P 500 yesterday- JOLTS in focus later today

Yesterday, like the Dow Jones, the S+P 500 also came close to breaking new ground, when it reached a high at 7,610.04. That was just some 10 points shy of the current record high, which remained in place at 7,620.90.

The index later closed at 7,600.50, with a very healthy 110.78 point gain on the session. Overnight the S+P 500 have been pricing the opening for later today as high as 7,623. So, it is not certain to break any records later today, but the vista right now suggests it probably will. Not long after the opening we get some pretty important US data, at 2pm GMT.

That is the June JOLTS - job openings numbers and that is not expected to rise. They were last at 7.594 million and the markets expect a number of around 7.45 million later. We shall report on that data as it breaks and also how the S+P 500 fares ahead of the release, when live trade resumes. The index is currently priced to reopen around 7,618
