The US economic releases noted earlier have now hit the screens and that covers the latest retail sales numbers, weekly jobless claims and Philly Fed manufacturing index.
Retail sales were forecast to rise by 0.2% from a 0.9% rise in June. They have risen by 0.2%
Weekly jobless claims were forecast at 217k from 215k. They have fallen to 208K
The Philly Fed index was forecast at 12 from 10.3. That has risen to 41.4 and that is one heck of a beat
The USD/JPY was edging higher into all this after briefly dipping below 162 earlier this morning. It was trading around 162.18 leading into this data. It has seen it mostly unchanged so far. The question now: was all this US data good enough to reverse the downside in the dollar? We shall have to see on that. The USD/JPY is right now at 162.20
