US data on the agenda- Dow Jones futures surge after United Health beats forecasts (corrected)

The leading Dow Jones component United Health (UNH) have just released their Q2 earnings report and it has been a beat from the third largest Dow component. The company beat on both the top and the bottom line, with earnings of $112 billion and an EPS of $6.38. The immediate reaction in the grey market in UNH has seen the shares higher by around 5%. That has had an impact on the Dow Jones futures.

The index was earlier pricing a lower opening for this afternoon, but not any more. The index had closed last night at 52,658, with a gain of 150 points on the session. Prior to these earnings from UNH it was priced to reopen around 52,585. That opening call just surged to above 52,800 a moment ago.

Outside of that impact we should note some US economic releases due this afternoon. At 12.30pm GMT we get the latest US retail sales report, Philadelphia Fed index and weekly jobless claims. There will be more to add on that lot when the data hits the street this afternoon. Meantime, the Dow Jones is currently priced to reopen around 52,780
