Nasdaq 100 the outlier this time

Yesterday the best performing stock on the Nasdaq 100 was Paypal. The stock surged 17.20% by the close and that was all due to takeover speculation. Apple, Alphabet and Meta all had pretty good days too, but it was not enough to stop the index from falling back. In fact, even as the Nasdaq 100 composite outperformed both the Dow and the S+P, the Nasdaq 100 did not and it was by far the weakest of the major US indexes by the close. What was also clear; positive rotation back to the Dow Jones following the lower than forecast PPI data was a negative driver for the Nasdaq 100.

The low seen was set at 29,192 following an earlier opening at 29,759. Granted the index did rally into the close, but that could not prevent a 83 point loss on the day. The Nasdaq 100 closed at 29,502. The futures are not exactly surging this morning either. The index is currently priced to reopen around 29,540
