FTSE 100 steadies in early trading as DAX advances further

The European stock markets have been open for just under one hour now and it has been a positive start to the final session of the week. The DAX did reopen higher and well above the 25k handle, starting the day at 25,075. It has since advanced just above 25,150.

Earlier this morning the FTSE 100 looked set to open lower, following a really poor close last night that we had noted earlier in the day, when the index was the only major European bourse to be heading markedly lower. Well, it remained that way into the close.

The FTSE 100 closed yesterday at 10,399.70 and was set to effectively reopen close to 10,350 following the UK political news overnight. It actually effectively opened better than that and has edged higher from a low seen so far at 10.378. The index is just now battling to push back above the 10,400, currently trading around 10,415 and it seems the higher oil price this morning maybe playing a part in the modest recovery
