The US President has little shame, but then again most of you probably know that. Well, he has today offered a blatant bribe to US voters, offering everyone a $5000 dividend if the Republican party wins the mid-term elections. Clearly Trump is deeply concerned they will not, or else why float the incentive? Such a move is said to have a price tag of over $1 trillion and most sensible people would conclude that such a cost is simply not feasible, with the deficit already rising to historic levels above $40 trillion.
Anyway, make of that what you will, but the US equity futures seem to think this is a positive move. Quite why that is the case is hard to explain. So, the Dow Jones traded as low as 52,314 yesterday and later closed 405 points lower, at 52,380. The futures are rising as we write and are currently pricing the opening for later today around 52,630
