Pinterest is a social networking service that enables its users to host photos online and share them with other users. Pinterest's founder is a young US entrepreneur from Iowa named Ben Silbermann. He established his company in 2008, while the service itself went live in 2009.
It started life as a closed registration service, eventually dropping its invitation-only requirement in the summer of 2012.
Investment opportunities
Since its creation in 2009, Pinterest has managed to attract around $1.5 billion worth of investment. At its most recent funding round, which took place in June 2017, the company was valued at $12.3 billion. Previous investors in the service include Japanese online retailer Rakuten and several major venture capital funds. When we look at some of the serious market players showing an interest in this company, there's no doubt that it represents an attractive investment opportunity.
