Netflix, Inc.

Netflix is an American entertainment company headquartered in Los Gatos, California. Main activity: a provider of movies and TV shows based on streaming media. It was founded on 29 August 1997.

The original Netflix business model included physical sales and movie rental on DVD, but one year after the company was founded, it focused only on rental, using the "DVD by mail" business model exclusively in the US.

In 2007, Netflix expanded its business by introducing a streaming service, while retaining the DVD and Blu-ray rental service. The company entered the international market in 2010, when streaming became available in Canada. In March 2015, the service became available in Australia and New Zealand, and in the autumn, Japan.

Since 2013, Netflix has produced its own films, TV shows and TV programmes. In 2016, the company released 126 original serials and films; more than any other network or cable channel. As of January 2018, the company had 117.58 million paid subscribers worldwide, including 54.75 million in the US.

In 2002, Netflix was added to the NASDAQ list.
