Mobile TeleSystems is a Russian telecommunications company that provides cellular and landline telephone services, broadband Internet access, mobile, cable, satellite and digital television.
The company was established in October 1993 in Moscow and was formed by several Russian and German shareholders as a private company. The Russian side owned 53% of the shares. On 1 March 2000, Mobile TeleSystems OJSC was established as a result of the merger of the MTS and RTK companies.
For 9 months of 2017 the total revenue of the company increased by 0.6% - to 326.0 billion RUB. (5.67 billion dollars) Net profit compared to the same period in 2016 increased by 25.1%.
MTS is the leading telecommunications operator in Russia and the CIS countries. The company is among the ten largest cellular operators in the world in terms of subscriber base and market capitalisation. Excluding MTS-Belarus customers, the number of subscribers of the company exceeds 101 million.
MTS Shares and asset prices
On 28th April 2000, the Federal Commission for Securities of the Russian Federation registered the initial issue of shares in MTS OJSC. Since 11th February 2004, the company has traded on the Moscow stock exchange under the ticker MTSS.
And as of 30th June 2000, MTS shares are quoted on the New York Stock Exchange (in the form of American depositary receipts) under the MBT index.
The average annual growth in the price of MTS shares in the period from 2008 to 2018 was about 33.5%.
Shares of MTS in RUB from 2016 to the end of 2017 increased by 18.27%, from 233.37 RUB to 276.00 RUB.
