Yesterday the FTSE set a low at 8,094.88. The index closed later at 8,121.01. That modest rebound was helped by the corresponding recovery across the Pond in the US. That said, the index did not set a higher close, when ending 28.77 points lower on the day. Right now the FTSE 100 futures are pricing an effective opening below the low seen yesterday. It is worth noting here; the DAX is closed today, but the futures are still trading and right now not making much of a positive impression. As noted earlier, UK yields remain elevated and that is a headwind for the UK stock market. The question on my mind this morning; can the FTSE 100 post its first ever annual close above 8k later today? This analyst can remember, when it just failed a first ever close above 7k some 25 years ago. Granted, a fall back underneath 8k today does look a remote prospect right now this morning, but it really does depend on what there is left to sell before the New Year comes in
