As we know the Dow Jones took a hit yesterday. In percentage terms it was the best performing US stock market, but it still handed back 494 points on the close. The Dow closed at 40,347, but it had earlier fallen to a low at 40,098 and only a last hour rebound avoided the prospect of a close below 40k yesterday. However, the Dow futures have fallen back since the close and at one stage were pricing the opening below the low seen yesterday. The index will be watching the US monthly jobs report very closely later on and what the index will not want to see is a payroll number well shy of forecasts. If that were to transpire, then the index could easily slide well below 40k ahead of the weekend. There will be more to add on what is expected from the US jobs report a little later this morning.
