What will the US markets make of the debate tonight? Nasdaq 100 futures on the rebound now

Earlier today the Nasdaq 100 futures were pricing the opening for this afternoon at, or below 18,600 after the index closed yesterday at 18,660. Generally speaking the markets have been rather subdued in Europe so far today and the news flow has been relatively light. The overall bias has shifted to a more positive opening outlook right now though for the Nasdaq. That is now above 18,700. There is no US data due to be released this afternoon and so the focus is surely on what emerges with the first debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump this evening. That is due to take place at 1am GMT. So, the US markets will have long since closed by then and most of us here in Europe will have hit the pillow. Hence, any reaction to the upshot of this eagerly awaited encounter will probably rest with the Asian markets. Of course nothing conclusive may emerge from this, but it does have the potential to sway American voters one way, or the other and hence we could potentially expect some volatility across the US equity futures during the night.
