Very close but no cigar yet for the FTSE 100

Earlier this morning it looked like a potentially red letter day for the FTSE 100 this morning. The index futures were pricing the index to make a move above 8,200 for the first time ever. Well, despite coming very close to that, it has not managed to trade above 8,200 today. It has not traded above the current all time high, at 8,199,95. The further fall in the DAX has clearly stunted the gains for the FTSE. That said the index is not backing off much at all yet and the demand for UK stocks remains pretty solid by the looks of it and also blind to any political concerns here in the UK surrounding the results of the local elections. The cash index high seen so far has been set at 8,198.59
