Very close but no cigar for the S+P 500 on Friday

If you were watching closely on Friday you might have noticed the S+P 500 came very close to setting a new record high. The index peaked at 6,127.47. The current and still existing record high was set on January 24, at 6,128.18. So, in terms of failing to break new ground, it does not come any closer than that- less than 1 point. The index later fell back to 6,107, before trying to rebound again and then closing the week, almost unchanged on the day, at 6,114.63. The index will not be open today due to the US holiday and some analysts have pointed to that for the reason as to why it stalled where it did on Friday. The S+P 500 futures have been trading overnight and have been pricing a higher opening for tomorrow, but of course that is likely to chop and change a good many times before the index resumes live trading. The S+P 500 is right now pricing that opening at around 6,122
