Very close but no cigar for the FTSE 100 as DAX hands it all back

Earlier today the rise above 8,000 in the FTSE 100 set a new 2024 high above 8,015, as was reported on here at the time. Well, since then the index lifted to within a wafer of the current all time record high, at 8,047. The high seen was set at 8,044, but it has backed off now amid the sea of red right now across the US markets. The DAX has come unstuck too. Earlier the index reached a high at 18,162. It has now fallen back below 18k and looks in danger of wiping out all the earlier gains today, remembering the index closed last night at 17,954. The FTSE 100 is now edging back towards 8,000 once more and now it remains in doubt, as to whether the index can post a daily and weekly close above that 8k level
