The March US trade deficit data has just been released. As noted here earlier the markets were looking for that to widen to around $137 billion, from a prior deficit of $122.70 billion. It has actually widened to $140.5 billion. The goods deficit has also widened again, above $163 billion, but the deficit with China has actually contracted by around $4 billion in March. Ahead of this release the dollar had been losing ground again, especially versus the Pound and the Yen. The USD/JPY was close to session lows (142.73), trading around 142.78 as the data hit the screens. The USD/JPY has not yet reacted much to this, but it sure has not rebounded yet either, currently trading at 142.71
