US stocks close lower but it could have been worse- Dow Jones futures in the green this morning

As far as anyone thinking the stellar rally on Wednesday marked the end of the losses for the US stock markets, it would pay well to rethink that. So, we have some pretty hefty losses across the US stock markets yesterday and at one point that saw the Dow Jones hand back more than 2000 points, when it fell to 38,427. However, it did recover more than half of that when it closed 1014 points lower, at 39,593. Overnight the Nikkei 225 fell by more than 2000 points too, but it has pared that loss somewhat right now. It is still heavily in the red right now though and that has been a driver for the Yen to gain versus the dollar. There will be more to add on that a little later. Notwithstanding the losses across the Asian markets today, the Dow Jones futures are a little higher just now. It is going to be another very volatile session today and the current opening outlook will change many times before live trading resumes. The index is currently priced to reopen around 39,750
