US futures edge higher as Europe extends gains- check out the S+P 500

Yesterday was quite a bumpy ride for the S+P 500. The index opened quite a bit lower, commencing live trading at 5,920.67. It then fell back to a low at 5,869.16 before making a pretty dynamic rebound to 5,940. However it never managed to even threaten to get back above where it had closed on Friday, at 5,970.84. The index later dropped back in the final few minutes of trading, to close 63.90 points lower, at 5,906.94. The outlook so far today has been more positive though and that has been helped by further gains this morning in the FTSE 100 and the CAC 40. So, right now the S+P 500 futures are close to session highs, indicating a reopening above 5,920. The question is; even if the index does open higher, will investors lay into the price again and deliver what might be a a third successive day of losses leading into the year end?
