US economic releases on the calendar today-check out the S+P 500 futures

Yesterday the S+P 500 closed modestly lower. It was actually the best performing major US index, albeit in a negative way. The S+P closed 16 points lower, at 5,218.99. Earlier the index had rejected any notion of setting fresh records, when it topped out at 5,229.09. That was below the close set the day before at 5,234.18 and below the current record high, which remained in place at 5,261.10. The outlook for the opening today is higher right now, but we do have some relatively important US data releases due out later on- at 12.30pm GMT, when the latest Durable goods orders and Philadelphia Fed index will be released. Then at 2pm GMT we get the Richmond Fed index. Any of those could cause a passing reaction in stocks. However, the really big number in that regard comes on Friday- the PCE report. There will be more to add on that in due course. Meantime, the S+P 500 is currently priced to reopen around 5,230
