Spotlight on the CAC 40 this morning

On Friday the CAC 40 was marginally the worst performing major European stock market, but we are talking about slight losses here. The CAC closed 0.15% lower, compared to a 0.14% loss for the FTSE 100 and 0.10% for the DAX. None of these index futures are exactly rebounding right now this morning and it looks like a rather uncertain opening a little later on. The French PMI data (8.15am GMT) noted in the previous update, when looking at the EUR/USD, could be important for the price action when live trade does resume. Also the French ratings downgrade from Moodys probably has not helped, but in truth the markets rarely pay much attention to that these days. At the same time, it is perhaps more symbolic of the woes facing the French economy than it is anything else. So, the CAC closed just 11 points lower on Friday, at 7,409. It is currently priced to reopen around 7,385
