S+P 500 sets first ever close above 5,500

The gains in the Nasdaq 100 and the record daily close helped to deliver a corresponding record close for the S+P 500 last night. The index did not match the record high seen last Friday though (5,523.64), when it peaked at 5,509.69. The index did post a daily close at 5,509.01, which was a new all time record close. That has snapped the downside move which had seen the index unravel at the end of last week. As with the Nasdaq 100 this morning, the S+P 500 futures have not moved much beyond the highs seen yesterday, despite the gains in the Asian markets today. The index is currently priced to reopen later today around 5,505
