S+P 500 manages to avoid a daily close under 6k

At one stage yesterday morning, the S+P 500 was priced to reopen close to 5,900. In the event it actually reopened 5,969.04 and did not actually trade much below that opening level (5,962.92 the low). The subsequent recovery saw it rise to a session high at 6,017.17, before later closing at 6,012.28, with a loss of 88.96 points on the day. So, it was not a positive day, but it could have been so much worse. The reader is reminded of the technically negative close the index set the night before and as you can see, that prior close was nevertheless endorsed yesterday. Overnight the S+P futures have not yet indicated an opening for later today below that 6k handle. There will be plenty more to add on this as the day unfolds. Meantime, the index is currently priced to reopen around 6,011.
