S+P 500 futures steady at slightly lower levels

The S+P 500 reached a high on Friday at 5,636.27 and that meant it climbed closer to the highs seen back towards the end of August, when it stalled several times around 5,650, ahead of the record high at 5,669.67 set on July 16. The index later closed at 5,626.02 on Friday, with a gain of 30.26 points on the day. The index is currently priced to reopen later today slightly below that close. There is very little on the US economic release calendar today. We just have the latest New York (Empire) manufacturing index due out at 12.30pm GMT (expected largely unchanged from a prior reading of -4.7). In truth though that data is of little consequence ahead of the Fed policy decision on Wednesday evening. The S+P 500 is right now priced to reopen around 5,623
