S+P 500 futures off the lows this morning

An update here yesterday afternoon covered the failure of the S+P 500 to get above 6k, despite just printing a high at that level. The outlook for further downside was later born out by the index falling back to print a low at 5,890.68. It did rebound from that low point, to later close the session at 5,909.03. However, that close was nevertheless some 66 points below where it had closed on Monday. There is no doubt that downside was delivered by the slide in the Nasdaq 100 and the component crossover there. The index futures are a little higher this morning though and that comes as the European markets make some progress this morning, mostly limited to the DAX at this stage though. The December US ADP payroll report (due out at 1.15pm GMT) could have an impact though and right now the markets are expecting pretty similar outcome to the 146k gain in payrolls seen in November. Irrespective of that, as noted here yesterday, that 6k level remains the barrier again today. The S+P 500 is currently priced to reopen around 5,920
