Notable earnings reports due today for the S+P 500
Owing to the slightly lower close in the Nasdaq 100 yesterday the S+P 500 was unable to make any real progress by the close. The index had earlier risen to a session high at 5,553.66 at the start of the day, but subsequently fallen back to 5,468.64. It rebounded from there into the close and later ended the day at 5,528.75, with a gain of just 3.54 points on the session. Today the S+P futures are so far not much above that close. Today there is another plethora of S+P 500 companies reporting their Q1 results. Notable names there are UPS (10am GMT), Pfizer (10.45am GMT), Coca Cola (10.55am GMT) and S+P Global (11.25am GMT). After the closing bell we get Visa (8.05pm GMT) and Starbucks (8.05pm GMT). The index is right now priced to reopen later today at around 5,536
