No new record for the Dow Jones last night but it was a close call

Yesterday the gains in the US stock markets, led by the Nasdaq 100, did not leave the Dow Jones or the S+P 500 behind. The Dow came close to setting a new all time high, when it peaked at 37,617. That was just short of the record for the index, set on December 20, when it topped out at 37,641. However, the Dow Jones was not able to hold all that gain into the close, when it fell back in the final 30 minutes of trading. The index close at 37,545, with a gain of 159 points on the day. The index futures are currently not much changed from that close and right now indicating a reopening at around 37,560
