A new record daily and weekly close for the S+P 500

The S+P 500 did not set a new all time high on Friday. That remained in place at 5,878.46, which was reached the day before. However, the index did later post a new record daily and weekly close on Friday evening, at 5,864,67. Most recently this record run has been perpetuated and supported by the Q3 earnings reports we have seen so far and there are more of those to come this week. It has also been supported by gains in the tech sector and the Nasdaq 100 last week. Indeed, in percentage terms, the Nasdaq 100 was the best performing major US index on Friday, but more on that in a later update. The Asian markets are rather mixed so far today, with China leading any gains and that has helped the S+P 500 futures edge ever so slightly lower. The index is right now priced to reopen later today at around 5,861
