A new record and a new record close for the Dow Jones

Yesterday the Dow Jones did open higher, at 40,138. The index had closed on Friday, at exactly 40k. The prior record high that was set on Friday, at 40,257 was then surpassed, as the index rose to a new all time high at 40,351. The subsequent close was then off that high, at 40,211- still another record daily close for the index. The move higher in the Dow Jones came as the S+P 500 made similar moves and on this occasion the Nasdaq 100 underperformed the broader market. As also noted, the gains stateside came despite losses for the European market closes yesterday. Indeed the major European market futures are a little lower this morning too, but more on those in a minute. Once again we have a marked contrast between European and US futures this morning too. The Dow Jones futures are currently higher today, just now indicating a reopening around 40,270
