Nasdaq 100 sets highest daily close of the year

The major US stock markets all posted higher closes last night. The best performing index was the Nasdaq 100, with a gain of 0.85% on the session. That compared to gains for the Dow Jones of 0.43% and 0.39% for the S+P 500. The Nasdaq 100 also rose to set a new 2023 high at 16,232. It held most of that gain into the close, when it ended the day 137 points higher, at 16,221. Overnight the Nasdaq futures have traded higher and at one stage they were pricing a reopening at above 16,260. The futures have tempered that gain just now, but as things currently stand, the index is set to open higher later on. However, of course we do have the latest US CPI report (at 1.30pm GMT) coming ahead of the opening and depending on what emerges there, it could alter the opening outlook. The Nasdaq 100 futures are currently pricing the reopening at around 16,240
