Nasdaq 100 flirting with new record above 16,860 as Dow Jones remains buoyant

Earlier this afternoon the Nasdaq 100 came to within an inch of setting a new all time high, when it reached 16,859. It did back off from there after coming within a single point of setting a new all time high. At the same time, demand for the Dow Jones has remained pretty solid, but in percentage gain terms there is not much to choose between the two on the day. As I write the Dow is higher by 0.24% and the Nasdaq better off to the tune of 0.40%. So as you can see, despite not yet setting a new all time high, the Nasdaq 100 is at the front of the gains for the US stock markets this afternoon. The index is actually just backing off a bit more now, currently trading at 16,840
