Nasdaq 100 avoids an annual close below 21k but where next?

The Nasdaq 100 futures are higher this morning and currently indicating the index will kick off the New Year in the green later today. That outlook might change though and on December 31 the index did narrowly avoid a technically weak close below its 50 day moving average (in place then at 20,969). The low seen was set at 20,979 and the index later managed to recover some of its earlier falls, when closing out the year at 21,012, with a loss of 184 points on the day. However, looking at the daily chart of the index, it does not look immediately positive and any break below that 50 day moving average, if seen could extend on the downside. Only a rebound back above 21,837 would tend to negate that outlook. Well, even with the Nasdaq 100 futures higher this morning, that is still some way above the current price action. The index is right now priced to reopen around 21,150
