Nasdaq 100 almost reaches 18,000

The Nasdaq 100 was the best performing major US index on Friday. It rose to a new record high at 17,987 and closed not too far below that too. The close at 17,962 was, of course a record daily and weekly close and some way above the previous record, at 17,783 set just the day before. On this occasion it was not the usual suspects that led the gains, because it was a more broad based rise in terms of individual component performance on Friday. Overnight the Nasdaq 100 futures have held a relatively tight range, with the Japanese, Korean and Chinese markets closed today. Where the Asian markets are open, they are mostly lower today. The Nasdaq 100 futures are currently pricing a reopening at around 17,945
