Gold lifts to set a new record high above $2400 as US stock markets open lower

Gold has now lifted above the earlier record high it set this morning, at $2,400.67. The metal has just this minute traded to above 2,404 as the US stock markets continue to fight off further losses after opening in the red this afternoon. The combination of a firmer dollar and Yen and mounting risk aversion has all played into the hands of gold bulls. The move above $92 in Brent for the first this year now has also helped to underpin the new record levels in Gold just now. The new record high is now at $,2,404.32. It is just now trading at $2,403.90
