Gold lifts to another new record this afternoon

Following the release of the September US PMI data, gold which was already rising this afternoon, has just lifted to a new record high, at $2,634.38. That came even as the USD/JPY rebounded back above the 144 handle and hence the disconnect in that Yen/Gold correlation got twisted a bit more. The push higher in Gold comes even as US yields rise a bit more on the day now. Granted it simply does not make much sense to have US yields and the USD/JPY rising at the same time as Gold is doing the same, but that seems to be where we are at this moment. Perhaps something will give on all this eventually, but will it be Gold that is the one to take the strain? We shall see. The metal is just now trading at $2,633.30
