FTSE 100 set to open higher following leading UK Q1 earnings this morning

As already noted here this morning, the FTSE 100 was the only major European stock market open yesterday. However, the index once again struggled to make much progress beyond the 8,500 handle. The range was covered by 8,468 and 8,505. The FTSE 100 later closed just 1.95 points higher, at 8,496.80. Well, since then the FTSE futures have gotten a lift from the higher US closes and the gains across Asia this morning. We have also just had some big UK companies reporting their Q1 earnings this morning- Nat West and Shell just reported a few minutes ago. Shell  missed on EPS, but beat on net profits. Nat West beat on net income and Shell has announced yet another Buyback, to the tune of $3.5 billion. So, nothing there to really dampen the opening outlook for the FTSE 100 this morning. The index is currently priced to effectively reopen around 8,543
