FTSE 100 set to open above 8,500 this morning

Early yesterday morning an update here noted the potential for the FTSE 100 to lift above 8,500. Well, in the event the index did not manage to do that. It stalled on the topside at 8,494.85 and that is exactly where it closed, on the high of the day. Earlier in the afternoon, the index had fallen back to 8,430, but it did not really feel the heat of the early US losses seen elsewhere in Europe. Well, since then the FTSE 100 futures have been pricing the opening this morning above 8,530, but they are currently paring that opening call. That has been delivered by some rather disappointing Q1 results from Lloyds Bank a short while ago. That said, the positive momentum across the global markets right now is still elevating the opening outlook this morning. The FTSE 100 is currently priced to effectively reopen around 8,510
