On Friday the FTSE 100 and the DAX exactly matched percentage losses on the day. Given just how much those were it was quite usual to see that. Anyway, both indexes suffered their worst falls for some considerable time, when they handed back 4.95% on the day. The FTSE 100 came close to the 8k level and it has not been below that level since December last year. The low seen was set at 8,023.45. The index later closed at 8,054.98 with a whopping loss of 419 points on the day. The further falls in the stocks stateside after the European close delivered a further lurch lower in the FTSE 100 futures. Well, as pretty much everything has melted even more today, the FTSE 100 was being priced to reopen this morning as low as 7,660 earlier. The FTSE 100 futures have rebounded off that low now, but irrespective of that, in the absence of any fresh positive news, the index is going to open sharply lower today, right now at around 7,860
