European stocks open on the front foot this morning but the CAC 40 continues to lag

Yesterday the CAC 40 managed to make some limited headway in what was a curtailed session, due to the US public holiday. The French stock market gained just 15 points on the day, ending the session at 7,646. There is little doubt here; that the French stock market has been helped higher by the record gains seen across the border in Germany and were it not for that, the CAC would surely not have made any progress at all. The French government is still in paralysis and right now shows little sign of extracting itself out of that. That said the CAC has opened slightly higher this morning and once again that is mostly about the DAX. Incidentally that index has set a new all time high just now on the opening, coming close to 19k. That prospect was highlighted here a little earlier and there will be more to add on that later this morning. Meantime, the CAC 40 is battling to hold its opening gains as the index slips back from its early high, currently trading at 7,652
