European stocks modestly lower in early trading- no fresh records for the DAX yet

The European stock markets have been open for around 45 minutes and in that time there has been an overall lack of traction for the main indexes. The FTSE 100 is still struggling underneath 7,700 and the CAC 40 is slipping back towards 7,900. At the same time, the DAX has edged lower and the slight downside drift comes as the Dow Jones futures remain in the red. The Nasdaq 100 futures are higher though, but that merely highlights the divergence between tech and the rest. The DAX reopened today at 17,743 from a close on Friday at 17,735. The index has so far topped out at the opening level and it is currently trading at 17,725
