As noted here earlier, yesterday the DAX failed to set a higher close yesterday. The index closed 10 points lower, at 20,329. Earlier in the day the index had come very close to reaching a new all time high, when it topped out at 20,480. The failure to get above that current record, at 20,522 may yet prove its undoing and certainly that does seem a risk right now, but perhaps it is a little too early to reach a conclusion on that. Well, the index has just kicked off the new session and it has been a lower start to trading today. The is opening below the 20,300 handle and not getting any immediate support from the US futures right now either. The index is just now trading around 20,280 and it should be noted; that the US stock markets will not actually be open later today in consideration of the death of the former US President, Jimmy Carter.
As the morning has unfolded the gains seen across the US equity futures have now dissipated somewhat. All three indexes are still pricing a higher...
Since the last update here noted the lack of immediate reaction in the dollar to the much better than forecast NFIB index, the dollar has now lifted...
The December reading of the US NFIB small business optimism index has just been released. The markets were generally expecting another positive...
