Dow Jones shies away from a new record

The Dow Jones barely managed to make any progress yesterday. The index eventually closed pretty much where it began the session, ending the day just 9 points higher, at 41,250. That said the close was not far off the highest level of the day, at 41,271 and some way above the earlier session low, at 41,109. The eventual close was neither negative, or positive from a technical perspective and perhaps more indicative of a lack of desire to push the index too much higher ahead of important events later this evening and then at the end of the week. However, the Dow Jones futures are ever so slightly higher this morning in terms of the indicative opening today, but we know just how quickly that can change. The news flow is light right now and in that respect there is not much to talk about. There is no US economic data of any note due out this afternoon for the index to potentially feed off. The Dow Jones is currently indicated to reopen at around 41,265
