Dow Jones sets a record daily close as US CPI looms

Yesterday the Dow Jones did not set a new all time high. The index rose to 42,562 yesterday. The current all time high was set on September 27, at 42,628. The Dow Jones closed last night at 42,512, with a gain of 431 points on the session and that was actually its highest ever daily close. It seems the index was not in the slightest bit perturbed by the arrival of Hurricane Milton. Now later today we have some very important US CPI data which has implications for the Dow Jones and the dollar, depending on what emerges. The  markets are expecting a drop back in non-seasonally adjusted annualised prices, to 2.3% from 2.5% recorded previously. However, the core annualised rate is expected to remain unchanged at 3.2%. Anything higher than 3.2% could throw a spanner in the works for stocks and lift the dollar higher again. Naturally, it will be the opposite if core prices finally really start to fall back last month. Right now the Dow Jones futures are slightly lower, currently indicating a reopening at around 42,495
