Dow Jones outperforms in mixed US stock market close

Yesterday the US stock markets gave back all of their earlier gains that had seen all the major indexes move back into positive territory at one stage. However, by the time of the close it was only the Dow Jones that ended the session with any gains at all. In fact, the mere 38 point rise for the Dow was not exactly impressive. Earlier in the day the index had risen to a session high at 41,172. It later closed just 0.09% higher, at 40,974. Overnight the Asian markets are mixed, but the Nikkei 225 has fallen again and earlier fell back closer to the 36k handle and that has dented the opening outlook for the Dow Jones later today.
