Dow Jones leads US stocks with another record close
Yesterday it was the Dow Jones that was the best performing major US stock market index from the start of the session until the very end. As mentioned, the Dow led higher by leading gains in United Health (UNH). That stock later closed 6.47% higher and that is some kind of move for the biggest component within the index. So, the Dow Jones powered ahead yesterday and came close to touching the 41k mark for the first time ever. In the event it peaked at 40,988 and later closed out the session at 40,954, with a gain of 742 points on the day (1.85%). That compared to a rise of 0.64% for the S+P 500 and almost nothing for the Nasdaq 100, which did spend most of the day in the red, before later ending just 0.06% higher. Overnight the Dow Jones futures have not strayed too far from the close and at this stage they are certainly not pricing a lower opening for later today
