Dow Jones leads US stock rebound into the close- futures modestly higher this morning

For most of the session yesterday the US stock markets were in the red. That saw the Dow Jones fall back to a session low at 39,869, after it had earlier opened at 40,171 and risen initially to 40,414. However, a later session rebound saw the index lift back above 40,300 and subsequently close at 40,227, with a rise of 114 points on the day. That meant the Dow was the best performing major index by the close, because the Nasdaq, which also rebounded off the lows, could not make it back into the green. There will be more to add on that a little later. The Asian stock markets are mostly in the green today and that has helped the Dow Jones futures modestly higher, but we are talking very small gains at this stage.
