Dow Jones grabs the yellow jersey again

Yesterday the gains in the US stock markets into the close was once again led by the Dow Jones. The rise in jobless claims yesterday was a major driver in that and it helped to underpin the cyclical stock sector at the limited expense of the tech sector and that ensured the Dow Jones beat the Nasdaq and S+P into the close once again. The Dow Jones gains 0.85%, compared to 0.51% for the S+P and just 0.16% for the Nasdaq 100. The Dow Jones extended the prior daily close above 39,000 (39,056) and ended the day at 39,387, with a gain of 331 points on the day. Overnight the Dow Jones futures have pushed higher and right they are pricing the reopening for later today at just above 39,450 and that means the index is set to take another step closer to the all time high it reached on March 21, at 39,889.
