Dow Jones futures lower this morning as the dust settles

Yesterday the Dow Jones opened at its highest level of the day, at 40,916. The index then fell almost 500 points to a session low, at 40,417, before rebounding again, back close to 40,750. It later closed at 40,736 and was the only major US index to close lower on the day, by 92 points. The rotation of cyclical and into tech ensured that was the case and also that the Nasdaq 100 and the S+P 500 set contrasting higher closes on the day. However, overnight all three index futures have fallen back, as the Nikkei turns lower and the US markets attempt digest the outcome of the US presidential debate. To be honest, leaving aside personal views on that; it does look rather inconclusive at this early stage. Perhaps we have to wait and see how US public opinion emerges over the next few days. Meantime, the Dow Jones is currently set to open lower later today, subject to change of course. That opening call is currently at around 40,575
